Disclaimer: Tax Guides, Product Reviews and Warnings
Every tax page on CoinReckon says "This is not tax advice" and links here. This page explains what that line means.
What this site is
CoinReckon publishes general educational information about US crypto taxes and Form 1099-DA, including selected state rules, as well as crypto product reviews and official-warning records. It is not tax, legal, accounting, financial or investment advice. Reading the site does not create a professional or client relationship between you and us.
Our pages cannot know your facts. Two people with the same form can owe different amounts, and the right treatment often depends on details a general article does not have.
Who writes it
The pages are written by Dana Kessler (she/her). She is not a CPA or an enrolled agent and does not prepare tax returns. No page on this site is currently checked by a CPA or an enrolled agent. See our team page and our editorial policy for how pages are made and sourced.
Scope
The tax section covers federal rules and selected state tax rules. The states index screens 50 states and DC and links to six guides; it is not a complete, live-verified nationwide rate chart. Local taxes are not covered. The calculators estimate federal tax only, so check applicable state and local rules separately.
Dates and tax years
Each tax page states the tax year it covers. Rules, forms, rates and thresholds change. Before you act, check the year on the page and then check the current IRS or state authority source it points to. Follow the applicable authority's current instructions when they differ from the page.
Calculators
The calculators under /taxes/calculators/ produce estimates. Each result is computed only from the figures you type in. It is not a filed return and not a final tax position. The figures stay in your browser: they are not sent anywhere and are not stored.
Exchanges, software and other companies
Information about exchanges and tax software comes from each company's own pages, with printed dates and unstated-year limits identified. It can change without notice, so confirm it with the company. Mentioning a company is not an endorsement by that company, and we do not imply one.
CoinReckon is not affiliated with or endorsed by the IRS, any exchange or any software vendor.
Ratings and warnings
A rating describes the documented criteria and evidence available for a particular regional profile and source date. It is not a guarantee of security, solvency, returns or suitability. Some measures have not been tested; preliminary and insufficient-data labels show limits described in the methodology. US, New York and Global profiles do not replace the provider's current eligibility rules. Global does not mean worldwide access.
Official warnings are attributed to the issuing authority, with allegations, settlements and decisions distinguished. A database entry does not establish a finding beyond its source. Absence from the database is not proof of safety. Status pages do not promise recovery of funds or provide a route around legal restrictions.
Crypto assets and services can expose you to loss, including loss of the full amount. Decisions about opening an account, buying a product or moving funds remain yours.
When to get a professional
Talk to a CPA, an enrolled agent or a tax attorney if any of these apply:
- you are missing records, such as cost basis or transaction history;
- your amounts are large or unusual;
- you received an IRS notice or letter;
- you are unsure how a transaction should be classified.
Limitation of liability
We work to keep the pages accurate, but we do not promise that they are complete, current or right for your situation. Use the site at your own risk. We are not responsible for losses, penalties, interest or other costs that result from relying on it. Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law.
Affiliate status
There are no affiliate relationships at launch. Links to tax software and exchanges are ordinary editorial links, and nobody pays for them. If that changes, we will say so on the page. See our disclosures for the current position.
