Editorial Policy: How We Source and Correct

This page explains how the pages on CoinReckon are built and maintained. Tax guides, product reviews and official-warning records have different evidence requirements, explained below and in the methodology.

How we source facts

Federal tax rules cite IRS forms, instructions, publications, notices, Revenue Procedures and Treasury regulations. State rules cite the relevant state tax authority or enacted statute. Citations identify the applicable tax year; incomplete or conflicting evidence is marked explicitly. A rate or threshold without a year is not a fact we publish.

Facts about an exchange or a piece of software come from that company's own page, and we record the date we read it. Companies change reporting practices and pricing. An undated statement can establish only what the company says; it does not establish a delivered form, a particular tax year or a current price. Those limits remain visible.

Secondary sources, such as news articles, forum threads and other tax sites, tell us what to check. They do not establish a tax fact. If primary evidence is missing, inaccessible or contradictory, we identify the limitation instead of describing the claim as verified.

Product reviews and official warnings

Product pages use dated evidence from the source dossiers. The initial review snapshot was generated October 20, 2026; publishing a review later does not refresh those dates. Facts, calculated ratings and editorial explanations remain distinct. We do not invent test trades, device testing, support conversations, testimonials or professional review signoff. Untested criteria and missing evidence limit a score as described in the methodology.

Official status claims come from the relevant regulator, court, law-enforcement body or sanctions record. We distinguish a warning, charge, allegation, settlement and judgment rather than treating them as interchangeable. Community reports cannot establish an official finding. Clone and identity conflicts require care: unresolved matches are omitted from the public database. A source restricted to linking is linked rather than reproduced as database records.

Readers can select US, New York or Global profiles; unknown availability does not mean allowed, and Global does not mean every country. Profile and status-only pages have no numerical ratings. Suspended ratings have no displayed score, and status-only pages do not link to the service. The review launch has no affiliate links.

What every tax page shows

Each page in the tax section shows the same items. The page template adds them, so they never depend on the article text:

  • the tax year the page covers
  • the statement "This is not tax advice", with a link to the disclaimer
  • a facts-checked date after a complete review within the page's stated source scope; individual access limits and mixed tax years remain visible

Who writes

Dana Kessler writes and maintains the pages. Her details are on the team page. She is not a CPA or an enrolled agent, and she does not prepare returns for other people. The voice on the site is "we checked": we read the source, state what it says and note where it stops.

Professional check

Today, no page on CoinReckon has been checked by a CPA or an enrolled agent. We say so plainly.

If we engage a credentialed professional, the pages that person has checked will name them, their credential and the date of the check. Pages without that check will not claim it. A missing name means a missing check.

Updates

The IRS publishes the next year's forms and figures in the winter, so we run a seasonal pass every December and January. We compare each page's rates, thresholds and deadlines with the new publications and change what has moved.

The publication update date moves when the content changes. A facts-checked date moves after a substantive review of the complete page within its stated evidence scope. We do not touch a date to make a page look fresh. Product source dates likewise remain separate from publication and formatting updates; importing an existing dossier is not a new fact check.

Corrections

If you find an error or want to respond to coverage, email [email protected]. Include the page address and the source that shows the mistake, ideally the relevant authority record or the company's own page. When we confirm an error, we fix it on the page.

Independence

CoinReckon carries no advertising and has no affiliate relationships at launch. Links to tax software and exchanges are ordinary editorial links, and nobody pays for them.

If affiliate links are added later, each will be marked as sponsored, and a disclosure will appear next to the first such link on the page and in the site footer. An affiliate link will never change what a page says or the order in which products appear. The criteria on the methodology page stay the same for every product. More detail is on the disclosures page.

What we do not do

We do not give personal tax, legal or investment advice. We do not prepare returns. We do not answer questions about an individual's own return, because we cannot see the facts of your situation and we are not licensed to advise on them. For that, talk to a CPA, an enrolled agent or another qualified tax professional. Product ratings are not personal recommendations or guarantees against loss.
