CoinReckon scores the centralized exchanges that take US customers, applying one published method the same way to every venue. This hub is the reasoning behind the ratings: what each score measures, why access shifts from one state to the next, and how to read the comparison so you land on a venue that fits how you trade. Figures come from our snapshot dated 2026-10-20, and nothing here was re-checked on the day it published.

How we rate each exchange

The published exchange model weights security and reserves at 25%, regulation and legal access at 20%, all-in costs at 20%, assets and products at 10%, liquidity and execution at 10%, user experience at 10%, and support at 5%. Missing evidence and inactive tests affect coverage and completeness; they do not silently become a successful test. Many exchange ratings are preliminary because we have not made the test trades or measured onboarding and support ourselves. The full scoring rules and thresholds live on our methodology page.

US, New York, and global access

Availability is not a single yes or no. The table lets you switch between three views: venues open to the broader United States, venues cleared for New York, and venues that operate globally. As of the snapshot that is nine exchanges for the US view, three for New York, and eight under the global filter. New York sits apart because the state's BitLicense regime admits far fewer operators, so a platform that serves most of the country may still be closed to New Yorkers. The global label only means a company runs internationally. It does not promise service in any particular place, and several states keep their own exclusions that no national figure captures. For venues that document their coverage in detail, pages like Coinbase Review: Fees, US Access and Security and Kraken Review: Costs, Access and Key Trade-offs spell out where they do and do not operate.

A checklist for choosing a venue

Before you fund an account, work through a short set of questions tied to your own situation:

  • Will it serve your state, including New York if that applies to you? Confirm on the venue's own page, not a general claim.
  • What does a full round trip cost (deposit, trade, and withdrawal) rather than just the advertised trading fee?
  • Does custody match your comfort level, and what is the platform's security and incident record?
  • Can you pull clean tax records at year end?
  • If you plan to self-custody, does the exchange let you withdraw to an external wallet without friction?

That last point carries more weight than it looks. An exchange is a place to buy and sell, not a vault for long-term holdings, so pair any venue with a wallet you control. Our wallets hub covers that side.

Fees, taxes, and reporting

US users owe tax on disposals and certain rewards regardless of which exchange they use, and the quality of a platform's reporting decides how painful filing becomes. Some venues issue clear forms and complete transaction histories; others leave you rebuilding cost basis by hand. We flag that difference in each review. For the mechanics, our taxes section and the exchange tax forms guide explain what each platform reports and what you still have to track yourself. None of this is tax advice for your specific return.

Listings that carry no rating

Not every page here is a recommendation. Bitget Review: Withdrawal Freeze, Fees and US Access publishes without a score, because our saved base records a withdrawal freeze and we suspended the rating rather than imply a number we could not stand behind. That status reflects our snapshot and was not freshly confirmed at publication. Two further pages are status-only and carry no service links at all. HTX: UK and EU Sanctions, US Availability and Garantex Status and Official Warnings exist to document sanctions and official warnings, not to route you to the platform. For the wider picture of flagged operators, see our warnings hub and the scam database.

This hub is general information, not personal financial or tax advice. Verify a venue's current terms and your state's eligibility before you act. Spotted something out of date? Tell us through our contact page.
