What this on-ramp profile covers
MoonPay runs fiat-to-crypto on-ramps and off-ramps: a way to buy or sell crypto with a card, a bank transfer or the mobile wallets Apple Pay and Google Pay, plus crypto-as-a-service rails that power checkout for partner platforms 112. This profile is not yet rated. It collects dated documentary evidence rather than a scored verdict. The business was founded in 2019 and keeps its headquarters in Miami, United States 15. Two operating entities carry most of the US and international work: MoonPay USA LLC, registered in Delaware since 2018, and Moon Pay PTE Limited in Singapore 84. Treat them as separate parties, not one interchangeable brand.
US and New York purchase availability
Platform access and product eligibility are not the same thing, and the evidence record keeps them apart. As of the October 20, 2026 check, MoonPay is documented as available in the United States, with no excluded states listed in this dataset 2312. An empty exclusion list reflects what the evidence record holds, not a promise that every product reaches every address. A missing field is not proof a limit exists, and it is not proof one doesn't.
New York sits on its own footing. Access there rests on a New York BitLicense rather than the general US registration, so a New Yorker's eligibility follows the state authorization, not the national one 12. The payment method you pick and the specific asset you want can each narrow what's actually offered to your account, independent of whether the platform reaches your state. Check the method and the asset, not just the map.
Payment route, quote and custody boundaries
Card payments, bank transfers and the mobile wallets Apple Pay and Google Pay are the documented ways in, with the purchased asset delivered to the user's wallet or a partner integration 112. An on-ramp hands the crypto out after purchase rather than running a standing balance for you, so where the asset lands, and who holds it, depends on the wallet or partner you buy through.
On cost, this is where the profile stops short. Fees, live quotes and the final all-in price of a purchase were not collected for this snapshot, so the evidence record carries no documented charge you can hold MoonPay to. That gap is a limit of the dataset, not a claim the service is free or cheap. The table pairs what the evidence does establish with the practical read for each line.
| Documented item | Exact dated value / scope | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| US availability | Available; no excluded states listed (checked October 20, 2026) 2312 | Platform reach, not a guarantee a given asset is eligible for you |
| New York access | Available on a New York BitLicense basis 12 | NY eligibility follows the state license, not US access automatically |
| US operating entity | MoonPay USA LLC, Delaware, since 2018 84 | The US contracting party; other group entities differ |
| FinCEN MSB registration | MoonPay USA LLC, signed June 2, 2025 202 | A federal money-services registration, not approval of any return |
| Sanctions screening | No OFAC or EU listing found (checked October 20, 2026) 131 | Absence in a sampled list is not general regulatory approval |
| Purchase cost / quote | Not collected for this snapshot | No documented fee to rely on here; get the live price at purchase |
Licenses and documented incidents
MoonPay's US registration footprint is wide. At the federal level, MoonPay USA LLC holds a FinCEN money services business registration signed June 2, 2025 202. State money transmitter licenses cover 44 states plus the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico, which the licenses page totals as 47 US jurisdictions 423. New York is handled through a BitLicense held by MoonPay USA LLC 12. Outside the US, the group points to a MiCA authorization passported from the Netherlands, an FCA cryptoasset registration in the UK, a VASP registration with the Central Bank of Ireland, an AUSTRAC registration in Australia, and a FINTRAC registration in Canada 34. A registration records that an authority has a filing on record. It is not an endorsement of the product or of any return.
The evidence record records one incident. In December 2022 a class action named MoonPay and Yuga Labs, alleging that NFT prices were inflated through celebrity promotion without disclosure of financial ties; MoonPay responded that the ties were disclosed and pushed for dismissal 1. The sources in this evidence record do not record how the case ended, so read it as a dated dispute, not a settled finding. No regulator enforcement action against MoonPay appears in the sources reviewed, and no OFAC or EU sanctions listing was found as of October 20, 2026 131.
What is absent from the supplied evidence
Several things sit outside this dataset by design. No live quote was pulled, so the final cost of a purchase, the fees, the spread and the all-in rate, is not documented here. The payment methods accepted for a given asset and region were not mapped, and delivery timing after a purchase was not measured. No test purchase or withdrawal was run for this profile; the write-up rests on documents, not a transaction. The holders of the non-US licenses are not individually named in the sources, and the group's full corporate structure is not laid out. The 2022 class action outcome is not tracked either. None of these gaps argues for or against MoonPay. They mark where the evidence ends.
How to decide before a purchase
A short pass before you commit, built only from what this profile can support:
- Identity and geography: confirm you're in the US, and if you're in New York, that your access runs on the state BitLicense, not the general US footprint.
- Intended operation: decide whether you need a one-time on-ramp purchase or an ongoing custody relationship, since the retail buy and institutional custody are different services under different entities.
- Cost and status limit: get the live, all-in quote inside the app before you confirm, because this profile holds no documented fee.
- Custody boundary: know where the asset lands after purchase, your own wallet or a partner integration, and who holds it.
- Next step: if the quote and scope fit, proceed on the official site; if they don't, compare other listings first.
Quick questions
Is MoonPay available in New York? Yes. The evidence record documents New York access resting on a New York BitLicense, a separate authorization from the general US registration 12.
Does this profile quote my final purchase cost? No. No live quote or fee was collected for this snapshot, so you'll need the in-app, all-in price before you confirm.
Was a purchase tested for this profile? No. The profile is built from supplied documentary evidence, not a test transaction.
