Coinbase says it provides a 2025 Form 1099-DA to US customers who sold or exchanged digital assets on Coinbase. The form reports gross proceeds, not your gain or loss.
If you moved coins between accounts before selling, finding the download is only the first step: you still need to match the sale to your purchase record.
Does Coinbase issue a 1099-DA for 2025?
Yes.
On its Form 1099-DA help page, Coinbase says US customers who sold or exchanged digital assets on Coinbase receive a Form 1099-DA for tax year 2025.
Coinbase page checked September 26, 2026. The form reports gross proceeds from those transactions. It does not establish what you paid for the assets or what you gained or lost.
That is Coinbase's description of whom it issues the form to, not proof that a particular account's document includes every transaction or has every field right. If you expected a form and cannot find one, check the account's Documents area and compare your transaction history before drawing a conclusion from its absence.
If you traded on more than one platform, the which exchanges issue Form 1099-DA hub can help you identify which issuer's records to look for.
Where and when to find the form
Sign in to Coinbase, open Coinbase Taxes, select Documents, and download Form 1099-DA for 2025. That is the route in Coinbase's tax-report download instructions, checked September 26, 2026. Save the document with its tax year in the filename so it does not get mixed up with an earlier Coinbase report.
Two dates appear in the source material, and they are not the same claim.
Coinbase's 1099-DA page says its 2025 form will be available no later than March 17, 2026, with an email notification when it is ready.
The IRS 2025 Instructions for Form 1099-DA give February 17, 2026 as the deadline for furnishing tax-year-2025 statements (current figure at the IRS). Coinbase's published availability date does not replace the IRS deadline. If you are checking after either date, use the Documents path rather than treating an email you did not see as the final answer.
What the form reports, and what it leaves out
For tax year 2025, Coinbase's 1099-DA guidance describes a proceeds-only form. Coinbase says cost-basis information begins appearing on its Form 1099-DA for tax year 2026 where it has basis it can report. Do not read that future addition as a promise that Coinbase knows the purchase cost of coins you acquired elsewhere.
Coinbase Taxes covers Coinbase.com activity.
Coinbase's download guidance places Coinbase Wallet and legacy Coinbase Pro transactions outside Coinbase Taxes; past Pro activity remains accessible in account statements until 2027.
A trade after midnight ET on January 1, 2026 belongs to the 2026 form, not the 2025 form, under Coinbase's form-year guidance.
| Coinbase activity or document | 2025 1099-DA/Taxes treatment | Source record to check |
|---|---|---|
| Coinbase.com sale or exchange | 2025 Form 1099-DA reports gross proceeds | Coinbase.com transaction history |
| Coins transferred in before a sale | 2025 form does not report their cost basis | Purchase record from the originating account or wallet |
| Coinbase Wallet or legacy Coinbase Pro activity | Outside Coinbase Taxes | Wallet history or past Pro account statements |
| Trade after midnight ET on January 1, 2026 | Different tax year: belongs to the 2026 form | Transaction date and time in account history |
For a general explanation of what a 1099-DA reports, use the form guide rather than treating this Coinbase-specific scope table as a box-by-box key.
What to check against your records
First, do not spend time hunting for the old free Form 8949 export. From tax year 2025 onward, Coinbase Retail Tax Center does not provide Form 8949.
Coinbase's download instructions point customers seeking it to a paid CoinTracker plan; Coinbase One Preferred and Premium members qualify for credits toward a plan.
That describes the available route, not a reason to buy one before checking your own records.
Use this form-versus-record checklist as a private reconciliation sheet, not as an automatic finding that Coinbase made an error:
- Select 2025 and label the saved file with its issuer, Coinbase, and document name, Form 1099-DA.
- Export the matching Coinbase history and pair each reported sale or exchange with its date and gross proceeds.
- For transferred-in coins, locate the purchase and cost-basis records from the originating account or wallet.
- Mark Coinbase Wallet and legacy Coinbase Pro activity separately; check past Pro account statements if needed.
- Review and edit transaction cost-basis details in Coinbase Taxes, then log any remaining discrepancy and the date you contact Coinbase support.
Consider a 2025 Coinbase.com sale of coins first purchased in another wallet. The sale and its proceeds can appear in Coinbase's records while the original purchase cost lives only in the earlier wallet's history. Coinbase tells users to keep their own basis records for the return and review or edit basis details in Coinbase Taxes.
Match the sale first, then retrieve the acquisition record; the 2025 1099-DA alone cannot establish gain or loss.
The reconcile missing cost basis guide covers the record-matching method, while report reconciled sales on Form 8949 covers the separate filing step.
The IRS 2025 instructions provide the reporting context for the 2025 form.
Other forms and who receives which document
A 1099-DA is not the label for every Coinbase tax document.
Coinbase's tax-report guidance identifies Form 1099-MISC for $600 or more in crypto income and Form 1099-B for US customers who traded futures, commodities, options, or other financial instruments.
Crypto is separate from Coinbase's consolidated 1099. Coinbase also says non-US customers do not receive US 1099 tax forms from it; they can access a transaction-history report instead.
Which document am I looking for?
| Start with the activity | Look for |
|---|---|
| Sale or exchange on Coinbase.com | Form 1099-DA |
| $600 or more in crypto income | Form 1099-MISC |
| Futures, commodities, options, or other financial instruments | Form 1099-B |
| Coinbase Wallet or legacy Coinbase Pro history | Separate records outside Coinbase Taxes |
| Non-US account | Transaction-history report, not a US 1099 |
| A case not described here | Issuer has not documented this case; ask Coinbase support rather than estimating eligibility |
The aid identifies Coinbase's stated document categories. It does not decide how a transaction belongs on an individual's return.
Corrections and support
If a field looks wrong, keep the downloaded 1099-DA, the matching transaction-history entry, and a short note describing the difference. Contact Coinbase support with that record rather than editing your only copy of the form.
Coinbase's 1099-DA page says it issues a corrected 1099-DA only for a change in state residency; other address changes do not qualify.
Do not assume a name, Social Security number, or unexplained proceeds issue will produce a corrected form under that policy. Take those questions to current Coinbase tax support and preserve its response alongside your records. A mismatch worth investigating is not, by itself, a reason to replace a reported figure with a guess.
What this means for your filing
Coinbase documents both the 2025 form and a way to download it. What it does not provide in that proceeds-only form is a complete purchase history for assets brought in from elsewhere. Coinbase Taxes also leaves Wallet and legacy Pro activity outside its coverage.
Those boundaries matter most when a return combines a Coinbase.com sale with transactions from another account.
Start with one sale you can match cleanly: find its date and proceeds on the form, then find the same transaction in your exported Coinbase history. For a transferred-in sale, look for the acquisition record in the originating wallet before deciding what the proceeds mean. If the missing piece is Wallet or Pro history, get that record separately.
If the numbers themselves differ, save both versions and ask Coinbase support about the discrepancy.
This is a records workflow, not a conclusion about what any one customer owes. The Form 8949 filing guide explains the general step after sales have been reconciled. For Coinbase, the question to settle first is narrower: which source record supports this sale and its purchase cost?
Questions about Coinbase's form
Does Coinbase send my 1099-DA automatically, or do I have to request it?
Coinbase says it issues the 2025 form to US customers with covered Coinbase sales or exchanges.
To retrieve it, sign in and go to Coinbase Taxes > Documents, then download Form 1099-DA; Coinbase says it sends an email when the form is ready (1099-DA guidance; download instructions).
Why can't I download Form 8949 free from Coinbase anymore?
Coinbase says Retail Tax Center stopped providing Form 8949 starting with tax year 2025.
Its download instructions describe a paid CoinTracker option and credits for Coinbase One Preferred or Premium members; check your records before choosing a preparation route.
I transferred coins in before selling them. Where is my purchase cost?
It is not on Coinbase's 2025 proceeds-only 1099-DA.
Coinbase directs customers to retain basis records from the originating account or wallet and to review or edit cost-basis details in Coinbase Taxes.
Will changing my address get me a corrected 1099-DA?
Only a change in state residency falls within Coinbase's stated corrected-1099-DA policy; another address change does not.
For a different account-field or amount problem, document it and contact current Coinbase tax support without assuming Coinbase will issue a corrected form (Coinbase 1099-DA guidance).
