Kraken says it issues Form 1099-DA for eligible US tax residents with reportable 2025 digital-asset sales and dispositions.
Start with the 2025 exchange 1099-DA directory if you need to compare Kraken's process with another exchange.
Does Kraken issue a 1099-DA for 2025?
Yes.
Kraken states that an eligible US tax resident receives a 2025 Form 1099-DA when the account had reportable digital-asset sales or dispositions and the account address was in the United States or a US territory on December 31, 2025.
An address outside that scope means the account does not receive a 2025 1099-DA (current figure at Kraken Tax Support).
Kraken presents the customer-facing document as a combined 1099-DA/1099-MISC statement. That presentation does not mean every Kraken product or every kind of income is reported on one IRS form. The 1099-DA addresses reportable digital-asset dispositions, while qualifying rewards may appear on a separate form.
Kraken's own tax material describes the issuance and eligibility policy. Check the country and address saved on the account at year-end before treating an absent form as a delivery problem. A US customer who changed an address after December 31, 2025 should still examine the year-end account details first.
Where and when to find the form
Kraken's 2025 guide directs customers to the web Tax Center as 2025 forms are generated. Its general tax-forms FAQ separately gives this desktop route: Kraken.com or Pro.Kraken.com account menu, then Documents, Account Documents, and Tax Statement. The FAQ says the route is not available through the mobile app.
An illustrative customer may search the Kraken mobile app several times and see nothing, then find the statement through the desktop account menu. That is an access-path issue, not evidence that the account failed the eligibility test.
Kraken stated that delivery would occur by March 13, 2026, at the latest, while also acknowledging delays and technical challenges in its Tax Center FAQ. The IRS furnishing deadline for 2025 Form 1099-DA was February 17, 2026, so Kraken's later stated expectation and the federal deadline are separate dates.
Which document should I seek?
| Account activity or situation | Next action |
|---|---|
| Sale or disposition on Kraken Exchange | Check 1099-DA eligibility, then use the web Tax Center or desktop Documents route. |
| Staking reward | Check whether the separate 1099-MISC conditions apply. |
| Equities through Kraken Securities | Look for the separate Kraken Securities 1099-B. |
| Non-US or non-US-territory account address at year-end | Do not promise a 1099-DA for that account. |
| Kraken Wallet, Ink, or another case outside the stated Exchange scope | The issuer has not documented this case as part of the initial 2025 exchange coverage. |
What the form reports, and what it leaves out
For 2025, Kraken says the statement reports gross proceeds from reportable digital-asset sales and dispositions. The Tax Center FIFO gain/loss estimate was informational for customers and was not sent to the IRS as the 2025 gain or loss amount. A number shown as a FIFO estimate should therefore not be mistaken for the IRS-reported proceeds figure.
The same distinction matters when a sale has no usable acquisition information. Proceeds on the form and your own basis calculation serve different purposes. A customer-facing estimate can help you investigate a transaction, but it does not replace the records needed to calculate the result on your return.
Kraken says its 2026 Form 1099-DA adds cost basis, acquisition date, gain or loss, and gain or loss character for positions acquired on January 1, 2026, or later. That expansion does not cover every asset sold in 2026. The IRS describes the broader reporting framework in its Form 1099-DA information.
What to check against your records
Transferred-in coins deserve the first review. Kraken says that coins transferred from another exchange or wallet may arrive without acquisition details, leaving the basis field blank on the 2025 customer statement. Blank does not mean zero.
Use the original purchase record, not the empty field, to establish what you paid.
Compare the sales dates and proceeds with Kraken's transaction export. Then trace each transferred lot back to the sending exchange or wallet and locate the original purchase record. If the statement and your records still differ, preserve the transaction ID, export row, and supporting purchase document before contacting tax support.
| 2025 Kraken item | Kraken statement/Tax Center | Independent record | Next check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proceeds and date | Compare the 1099-DA proceeds and transaction dates | Kraken transaction export and your sale records | Mark each unmatched date or amount |
| Transferred-in acquisition cost | Basis may be blank for coins sent from another exchange or wallet | Original purchase record from the sending account | Trace the transfer and retain the purchase evidence |
| Informational FIFO estimate | Tax Center estimate for customer use; not the 2025 IRS-reported gain or loss | Your lot and basis workpapers | Use it as a comparison, not as the IRS proceeds amount |
| Staking reward on the separate document | Review the 1099-MISC when its conditions apply | Reward history and account records | Keep it separate from the 1099-DA reconciliation |
Private form-versus-record checklist
- Select tax year 2025 in the Tax Center or account document view.
- Record the issuer name and the form you are reviewing.
- Compare sales dates and proceeds with the Kraken transaction export.
- Identify the original purchase record for every transferred-in coin with missing basis.
- Note each discrepancy and keep the current Kraken tax-support route with your records.
This checklist is a working record. It does not by itself establish that Kraken made an error.
Other forms and who receives which document
A qualifying staking reward may be reported on Form 1099-MISC when the reward amount reaches $600 or more for 2025. That document covers a different type of payment from the proceeds reported on the 1099-DA.
Equities activity through Kraken Securities uses a separate Form 1099-B. Do not treat that form as a second version of the Kraken Exchange digital-asset statement.
Kraken identifies 2025 Exchange activity as its initial coverage. Kraken Wallet and Ink DeFi products are outside that stated initial exchange scope. The combined customer presentation therefore should not be read as a promise that every Kraken product appears on one IRS statement.
Corrections and support
The dossier does not provide an issuer-specific correction procedure.
If the statement is missing or appears inconsistent with your records, contact Kraken's current tax support with the tax year, account address, form name, transaction export, and evidence for the affected transfer or sale.
Describe the exact mismatch. For example, identify a proceeds date that differs from the export or a transferred coin whose acquisition basis is blank. Keep copies of the original files and your support request; do not assume that a support contact guarantees an amended form.
What this means for your filing
The narrow answer is that Kraken documents 2025 issuance for eligible US tax residents and also acknowledges rollout friction. Check the account's December 31, 2025 address and both documented access paths before deciding that the form is absent.
A missing 1099-DA does not remove the need to report taxable activity. A form can also require reconciliation when transferred-in coins have no acquisition basis shown. The proceeds reported by Kraken are not the same thing as a complete calculation of your gain or loss.
For the next step, download the eligible 2025 Kraken statement and export the same year's transaction history. Mark the first proceeds difference or transfer-basis gap.
The reconcile missing cost basis guide covers the deeper lot-record work, while the report reconciled sales on Form 8949 guide addresses the filing mechanics.

Questions about Kraken's form
Why is my Kraken 1099-DA late?
Kraken acknowledges technical challenges and delays in its Tax Center FAQ.
Check the web Tax Center first, then the desktop Documents > Account Documents > Tax Statement route, and contact Kraken tax support with your 2025 account details if the statement remains missing.
Does a blank cost basis mean I paid nothing for coins I transferred in?
No. Kraken's reading guide says transferred coins may have missing acquisition basis, so use the original purchase records from the sending exchange or wallet.
Did the IRS get the FIFO gain or loss estimate in my Tax Center?
No, not for 2025. Kraken describes the FIFO estimate as informational for the customer, while the 2025 statement reports gross proceeds to the IRS.
Why do I have a Kraken 1099-MISC or a Kraken Securities 1099-B instead?
A 1099-MISC may cover qualifying staking rewards of $600 or more in 2025. A Kraken Securities 1099-B covers equities activity and is separate from the Kraken Exchange 1099-DA.
Download the eligible 2025 Kraken statement, export the same year's transaction history, and mark the first proceeds or transfer-basis difference before following the applicable guide or contacting Kraken tax support.
