If you sold Bitcoin through Cash App in 2025, the form name matters before you start matching numbers.
Cash App's dedicated Bitcoin tax page names Form 1099-DA, while two other Cash App pages still describe a Bitcoin Form 1099-B.
Keep the distinction between those pages and the document you actually receive.
Does Cash App issue a 1099-DA for 2025?
Cash App's dedicated Bitcoin Taxes page says it issues a separate Form 1099-DA for every 2025 Bitcoin sale. Its general Bitcoin page and Cash App Tax Help FAQ, however, describe Form 1099-B for Bitcoin without specifying a tax year. Those statements do not establish that every customer received either form.
For a 2025 sale, the dedicated tax-year page is the more specific issuer statement. The undated 1099-B wording remains a real conflict, not proof that those pages are obsolete. Cash App's B-Notice wording also names both 1099-DA and 1099-B for “Bitcoin and/or Stock activity” without assigning either form to a product.
A notice with that wording cannot resolve which Bitcoin document to expect.
Write down both page claims if you need to ask about your form: “1099-DA” beside the dedicated 2025 statement and “1099-B” beside the undated Bitcoin wording. Then compare those claims with the label on the document furnished to you. For the general form fields, see what a 1099-DA reports; this page stays focused on Cash App's competing statements.
Where and when to find the form
The dedicated Cash App Bitcoin Taxes page gives February 15 as its delivery date for 2025 Bitcoin-sale forms. That is an issuer statement, not the IRS deadline. IRS Tax Tip 2026-07 gives February 17, 2026, as the general deadline to furnish the 2025 form to recipients.
Do not use a business-account instruction as a Bitcoin instruction. The Cash App material examined for this article documents Settings > Documents for business Form 1099-K, but supplies no Bitcoin-sales form download path. If the Bitcoin document is absent from what Cash App has furnished to you, use Cash App's current tax support to ask where to access the 2025 Bitcoin-sale form.
Include the tax year and the form name you expected; do not assume a 1099-K menu will contain it.
What the form reports, and what it leaves out
The dedicated Cash App Bitcoin Taxes page addresses 2025 Bitcoin sales and says cost basis is not reported to the IRS for those sales. That statement concerns what Cash App sends to the IRS. It does not establish whether a customer-visible copy has a basis field populated, blank, or marked another way.
Check the copy you receive rather than treating the IRS-reporting statement as a box-by-box description.
Under the IRS Instructions for Form 1099-DA, gross-proceeds reporting begins for dispositions on January 1, 2025; basis reporting for covered assets begins with tax year 2026.
That general rule is not a Cash App promise about its 2026 Bitcoin-sale forms: the Cash App material examined here contains no such commitment.
A proceeds figure alone does not tell you what you paid. Pull the original purchase record or, for Bitcoin moved into Cash App, the records from before the transfer. The available Cash App material gives no transfer-in basis workflow or statement about basis values on its Bitcoin tax form.
If your copy leaves basis blank, reconcile missing cost basis from those source records.
What to check against your records
Start with the product. A Bitcoin sale, a Cash App Investing stock sale, and a business payment can all appear in a person's Cash App activity, but their document claims differ. Match the form against the transactions it purports to cover before comparing totals.
Form-versus-record checklist
- Tax year and product: Mark 2025 and identify the activity as a Cash App Bitcoin sale, not Investing stock activity or business receipts.
- Document label: Copy the actual form name. Note that the dedicated 2025 Bitcoin page says 1099-DA while the undated Bitcoin pages say 1099-B.
- Sales and proceeds: Compare each sale date and proceeds amount on the form with exported Cash App activity. Record any sale you cannot match.
- Acquisition source: Save the original purchase record for the Bitcoin sold. Do not substitute sale proceeds for what you paid.
- Transfer-in source: If the Bitcoin arrived from elsewhere, keep the earlier acquisition and transfer records together; the Cash App material gives no transfer-in basis workflow.
- Discrepancy: Write down the disputed amount or form label and retain any support reference with the export and document.
For a compact working note, leave the numbers empty until the records are in front of you:
| Field | Received form | Source record |
|---|---|---|
| Product and tax year | ______ | Cash App Bitcoin activity, 2025 |
| Document label | ______ | Dedicated page: 1099-DA; undated pages: 1099-B |
| Sale date and proceeds | ______ | Exported sale: ______ |
| Acquisition and transfer-in records | ______ | Purchase record: ______; earlier transfer record: ______ |
| Difference and support reference | ______ | ______ |
A blank acquisition cell is a record-gathering task, not a reason to change the sale proceeds. Keep the form-name question separate from any dollar difference so support can address each one.
Other forms and who receives which document
Use the product that generated the activity to narrow the document you are looking for. The table reflects Cash App's dedicated Bitcoin claim and the separate product distinctions in the research dossier; it does not determine what an individual account was issued.
| Product or activity | 2025 document claim | Eligible account | Evidence limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin sales | Separate 1099-DA for each sale | Cash App Bitcoin seller | Undated Cash App pages also say 1099-B for Bitcoin. |
| Stock sales | 1099-B | Cash App Investing customer with stock activity | A stock form does not establish the Bitcoin form's label. |
| Business payments | 1099-K above $20,000 and 200 transactions | Cash App Business account | The 2025 threshold comes from the research dossier, not the Bitcoin-tax page; personal accounts do not receive this business form. |
Which document am I looking for?
- Sold Bitcoin in Cash App? Start with the dedicated page's 2025 1099-DA claim, but note the conflicting 1099-B pages and inspect the received document.
- Sold stock through Cash App Investing? Look for the stock product's 1099-B, not a substitute Bitcoin record.
- Received business payments? Check the business-account 1099-K condition in the table; do not apply it to a personal account.
- Activity or document does not fit? Ask Cash App's current tax support which product and tax year the document covers.
Corrections and support
The Cash App material examined here gives no specific correction route for a Bitcoin Form 1099-DA. Prepare a narrow question for current tax support instead of assuming that changing an app setting will revise a tax document. If the issue is a form name, say so; if it is proceeds, identify the sales behind the difference.
Prepare before contacting support:
- The document's exact name and tax year, or a note that no Bitcoin-sale document arrived.
- The sale dates and transaction identifiers from Cash App activity.
- The proceeds shown on the document and the amounts in your export, with the difference marked.
- Screenshots of the document and relevant activity, or exported records showing the disputed sales.
- A direct question: “Which form covers these 2025 Bitcoin sales, and how should I raise this proceeds difference?”
Save the support reference with your records. A support exchange is useful evidence of what you asked, not a replacement for the sale and acquisition records.
What this means for your filing
Treat the dedicated 2025 Bitcoin-tax statement as the working answer about Cash App's intended form, while retaining the undated pages that say 1099-B. The deciding evidence for your record comparison is the document you actually receive alongside your Cash App sale history. A missing or differently named form does not make the underlying activity disappear.
The issuer's February 15 delivery statement and the IRS February 17, 2026 furnishing deadline answer different questions; IRS Tax Tip 2026-07 gives the latter (current figure at the IRS). If the document is missing, ask Cash App's current tax support about access. If its proceeds differ from the export, preserve both versions and identify the transactions at issue before proceeding.
For the separate filing step, report reconciled sales on Form 8949. If the difficulty is an absent acquisition figure rather than proceeds, use the source records and the guide to reconcile missing cost basis. Neither the form label nor a proceeds total alone settles an individual return.
Questions about Cash App's form
Why does Cash App still say 1099-B for Bitcoin?
Its general Bitcoin page and tax FAQ use undated 1099-B wording, while the dedicated Bitcoin-tax page names 1099-DA for 2025 sales. The pages conflict; the undated wording does not explain why. Record the label on your actual document if you ask Cash App about it.
Is my Cash App stock form also my Bitcoin form?
No. Cash App Investing is the separate stock product, and its stock activity has a 1099-B claim. Compare the transactions named on that document with your stock records, not your Bitcoin sale history.
Can I use Settings > Documents to get my Bitcoin form?
That path is documented here only for business-account 1099-K. No Bitcoin-form download path appears in the Cash App material examined for this article. Ask current Cash App tax support where to access your 2025 Bitcoin-sale document.
Does my personal Cash App account get a business 1099-K?
No. The research dossier distinguishes personal accounts from business accounts for that document. This says nothing about whether your Bitcoin sales have a tax form.
How do I check whether my proceeds are right?
Match each reported sale with its date and proceeds in your Cash App activity export. Keep purchase and transfer-in records separately: proceeds describe the sale, while those records address what you paid.
