CoinReckon's broker hub covers the US apps and brokerages where you buy crypto through a regulated financial company, with coins sitting next to stocks, cash, or a retirement account rather than on a dedicated trading exchange. This page explains what we file here, how the regional tables work, and what to check before opening an account.
What counts as a broker here
A broker, in our sorting, is a platform whose main business is something other than running a crypto order book: an investing app, a payment app, a retirement or IRA provider, or a Bitcoin-focused buying service. If a platform's core product is a spot exchange, it lives in the exchanges hub instead, and the line is not always clean. We place a service by its primary function and say so on each review.
The practical consequence is custody. Many brokers hold your crypto for you and limit or block transfers to an outside wallet, so the coins are a balance in an account rather than keys you control. Others support withdrawal to self-custody. If moving coins off-platform matters to you, read the custody note on each review and compare it with the options in the wallets hub before you commit funds.
Reading the US, New York, and Global tables
The index offers three views. The US table lists every broker eligible for a mainland US audience as of the snapshot. New York is separate because its rules exclude several services that operate elsewhere in the country. The Global view flags brokers with reach beyond the US.
As of the October 2026 snapshot, 14 brokers are eligible for the US view, 11 for New York, and 5 for the Global view. A place in the Global table never means a service is available in every country. It means the broker operates somewhere outside the US, and you still have to confirm your own jurisdiction. State-level exclusions beyond New York are tracked per review, not in this count. Where we cannot confirm whether a service reaches a given state, we mark it unknown rather than guess, and only profiles with a dated, sourced measurement behind them appear in the ranked tables.
We do not name a best broker. The right pick depends on which account type, cost structure, and custody model fits you, and the table order alone cannot resolve those trade-offs.
How to read a single review
Each review, such as the Interactive Brokers Review: Costs, Access and Key Trade-offs or the Fidelity Crypto Review: Costs, Access and Key Trade-offs, follows the same structure. Work through it in this order:
- Total cost over time, not the headline fee. Add spread, trading commission, spread markup, and any withdrawal or account charge for the way you actually plan to trade.
- Custody and withdrawal. Can you move coins to your own wallet, or are they locked to the account?
- Account type. Taxable brokerage, IRA, or payment balance changes your tax treatment and your access.
- Supported assets. Some brokers offer Bitcoin only; others list dozens of tokens.
- Access. Your state, and whether the service is live or waitlisted there.
- Regulatory standing and track record as recorded at the snapshot date.
A shorter review like the Cash App Review: Costs, Access and Key Trade-offs covers the same checklist at the depth the product warrants.
Taxes and reporting
US brokers report differently, and crypto adds wrinkles that a stock-only account does not. Start with the taxes overview, then the exchange and broker tax forms page for which documents to expect, and the tax calculators for working out gains. CoinReckon publishes general information, not personal tax advice; confirm your situation with a qualified professional.
How we rate and what the snapshot covers
Scores and detail tables on each review are generated by the site from our dataset under methodology version 1.3; the figures reflect a snapshot dated October 20, 2026. The publication date on a page is not a re-check date, and we make no claim that any figure is verified live at the moment you read it. An undated number is not printed; the review says what to check and where instead. CoinReckon sells nothing and carries no affiliate or commission links, so no placement moves with a payment. If you find something stale or wrong, report it through the contacts page, and see methodology for the full method.
